Nelson Mandela High School
This 1500 capacity core school with a 300 student expansion is designed for the specific community with innovative features that prepare students for continued education in the post secondary world.
At the same time, the school meets the needs of the diverse cultural community by extending services and learning opportunities. By organizing a semi-public space with CTS and gathering spaces along the site circulation routes, the building sets up a highly functional and safe core school that plays into a social and contextual response to its neighbours. While initially a complete project, three (3) separate additions were fathomed giving the school an enduring and adaptable legacy to the community. A theatre, gymnasium and classroom expansion are all potential future phases that allow this high school to adapt to future needs.
